Mercedes today unveiled a vehicle that will come as no surprise to fans of the German brand, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 coupe.

The GLC43 Coupe is the higher performance variant of the slope-roofed GLC300 crossover. It is defined mostly by its engine, a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 producing 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. The turbos put out a maximum of 16 psi of boost.

Quoted performance figures include a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 130 mph.

Of course, the engine isn't the only performance upgrade. It also gets the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system with a 31/69 front/rear torque split, an AMG-enhanced version of Mercedes' 9-speed automatic transmission with shorter shift times and steering wheel shift paddles, continuously variable dampers, and an AMG Sport version of the standard GLC's optional four-wheel air suspension. The air suspension can raise the ride height to clear off-road obstacles and also includes a self-leveling feature.

As for off-road capability, Mercedes says the GLC43 Coupe can ford up to 11.8 inches of water and has an approach angle of 21.2 degrees and a departure angle of 21.8 degrees. These stats allow for mild off-road ability. By comparison, in its base form the Jeep Grand Cherokee has an approach angle of 26.2 degrees and a departure angle of 24 degrees. The GLC43 Coupe can also tow up to 3,501 pounds.

Unique exterior features over the GLC300 Coupe include black trim bits, unique front and rear fascias, a rear spoiler, and AMG 20-inch wheels on 255/45 front and 285/40 rear tires. Twenty-one-inch wheels are optional.

Inside, the GLC43 Coupe features faux leather upholstery with synthetic suede inserts and red stitching, red seat belts, aluminum trim, an AMG Sport steering wheel, and a Race Timer for recording lap times.

Like the CLC300 Coupe, the GLC43 Coupe comes standard with a drive mode selector with Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual settings. The Eco setting triggers stop/start and sailing functions.

Other features shared with the GLC300 Coupe consist of forward collision warnings with emergency braking, LED headlights, keyless starting, a power driver's seat with memory, a 7.0-inch center screen, a rearview camera, a power liftgate, power folding mirrors, and a sunroof. When Mercedes' COMAND infotainment system is ordered, the center screen increases to 8.4 inches. A 13-speaker, 590-watt Burmester audio system is optional.

The 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 Coupe is set to hit dealers in the first quarter of 2017, likely a month or two after the GLC300 Coupe.
