Porsche Macan Turbo gets power-boosting Performance Package

Follow Viknesh

Porsche’s Macan is currently the performance leader in the compact SUV segment.

Whether you’re driving the base 4-cylinder model or the range-topping twin-turbocharged V-6 Turbo, we bet there’ll be a huge grin on your face. However, with fellow German firms BMW and Mercedes-Benz working on high-performance SUVs of their own, Porsche’s Macan, even in Turbo guise, may soon be outgunned.

In a pre-emptive strike, Porsche is upping the ante on the Macan via a Performance Package available for the Turbo. It boosts output from the vehicle’s 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 to 440 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, up from 400 hp and 406 lb-ft in standard guise.

The result is a 0.2 of a second improvement in the 0-60 mph time, now registering at 4.2 seconds. There's also a 5 mph gain in top speed, now at 169 mph.

To go along with the extra output, the engineers have also installed some worthwhile chassis upgrades. The list includes larger brakes, a sports exhaust system and a standard Sport Chrono Package. The adjustable air suspension system has also been tuned specifically for the vehicle and brings the ride height lower by 10 millimeters. A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission remains standard.

All this goodness comes at the price, though. A 2017 Macan Turbo equipped with the Performance Package will set you back a hefty $87,495, including a $1,050 destination charge. That represents a $10,445 premium over the standard Turbo’s price tag, though it works out to  be decent value when you consider the individual cost of many of the items included in the package.
