Video explains what is an air suspension

A lot of new cars and trucks are available with air suspension.

A better name for the technology is air springs, as air suspension is essentially an alternative to the more familiar steel springs found on most cars and leaf springs found on older trucks.

As the name suggests the technology uses air to cushion the vehicle. Air is fed into reservoirs fitted at each corner and this supports the vehicle.

There are various types of air suspension in use today, as detailed in the latest video from Engineering Explained, but the benefits are largely the same.

In many luxury cars, air suspension is picked because of the smooth, steady  ride it delivers. But it’s also great for trucks and off-road vehicles because of its load-leveling aspects and ease at which you can raise and lower the vehicle.

This is just the first in a two-part series on the topic, so stay tuned for more.
