Chevrolet’s Corvette Z06 first burst onto the scene at the start of this year but already the car has received some updates. The big news is the addition of a special Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition that pays tribute to the Corvette C7.R endurance racer and is limited to just 500 copies. As you may recall, the new Z06 was developed alongside the C7.R, with technology transfer playing a major role in the gestation of both cars.

The C7.R Edition is available either in black or in the Corvette Racing team’s signature yellow livery, along with coordinated exterior and interior accents. It comes in 3LZ trim and buyers have the choice of coupe or convertible bodystyles and manual or automatic transmissions.

All 500 examples will also come fitted as standard with the Z07 Performance Package, carbon ceramic brakes and a unique vehicle identification number. In case you’ve forgotten, the Z07 Performance Package adds some worthy track upgrades such as the aforementioned carbon brakes, adjustable front and rear aero components and Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tires.

Beyond these features, the C7.R Edition gets some exterior enhancements including a graphics package, yellow paint for the brake calipers, black wheels with a yellow accent and Corvette Racing center caps, an aero kit in visible carbon fiber, a visible carbon fiber hood, and metallic gray paint for the front grille and vents.

For the interior, there’s black leather trim with yellow contrast stitching, suede-like microfiber and carbon fiber accents, and Corvette Racing sill plates. There’s also a dash plaque showing the individual build number, starting with VIN 700001. Buyers will also receive a car cover with C7.R graphics.

No changes have been made to the powertrain, which means the car’s still packing a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 good for 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

“Corvette Racing’s legacy and technology were significant influences on the development of the Corvette Z06 and the new C7.R Edition honors the direct link between the race car and the production model,” Corvette product and marketing manager Harlan Charles said in a statement. “It also advances Chevrolet’s plan to offer special edition models that offer a unique, personal ownership experiences, which become important parts of Corvette’s legacy.”

As for the updates for the 2016 Corvette Z06 range, these consist of available carbon fiber accents, a front curb-view parking camera, MyLink connectivity enhancements, a power-cinching hatch/trunk latch, and some new design packages.
