The twin-turbocharged version of Hennessey’s HPE700 Corvette Stingray kit has already proved its mettle—but what about the supercharged version? You’re about to find out.
Taking the route GM decided to take for its own super-hot Corvette, the 650-horsepower, 650-pound-foot 2015 Z06, Hennessey straps a supercharger on the nose of the 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine to upgrade the 455-horsepower stock output.
So how strong is the new Hennessey HPE700 supercharged Stingray? It puts 610 horsepower and 557 pound-feet of torque to the wheels. That’s a bit more lopsided than the perfectly symmetrical Z06’s figures, but the shapes of the curves are very similar—torque is nearly a plateau, and horsepower just keeps rising to redline.
Who says a cam-in-block pushrod V-8 is ancient technology? Who cares if it is?
