The current Mercedes-Benz M-Class
first arrived as a 2012 model
, and soon the popular luxury SUV will receive a mid-cycle update. These are the newest spy shots of a prototype for the updated SUV, which we expect to be launched on the market later this year, as a 2015 model.
The vehicle is heavily disguised at the front, suggesting that there will be extensive changes made to the styling. Expect a rounder and more elegant look for the headlight and grille area, bringing the styling of the M-Class closer in line to that of more recent introductions such as the 2015 GLA-Class
. A similar look should feature on the upcoming 2016 GLK-Class
We can also expect some changes to the styling at the rear, with a new diffuser and exhaust tip design coming. Inside, look for plusher materials, new display screens and the latest infotainment software.
Expect a major shakeup in the engine department, with the base ML350 model getting a turbocharged V-6 good for approximately 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The ML350 BlueTEC diesel is also tipped to receive a new four-cylinder unit. Finally, we may also see a new nine-speed automatic
introduced with this facelift. No changes are expected for the engines in the ML550 and ML63 AMG V-8 models, although we could see power upped slightly.
Note, in the next 12-18 months Mercedes-Benz will also introduce a new version of the M-Class with coupe-like styling. The BMW X6 rival is tipped to be called the ML-Coupe although MLC has also been suggested as a possible name. A prototype for the vehicle has already been spotted
, and we got a preview in the form of the Concept Coupe SUV
from the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. Also in the works is an update for the GL-Class
