Mercedes-Benz will introduce a subtle facelift for its GL-Class for the 2016 model year, and a prototype for the updated SUV has just been spotted. The current GL was all-new for 2013, so the 2016 model year coincides with the vehicle’s mid-cycle.
Two separate variants have been spotted and both show new bumper and grille designs. We’re expecting more changes to the exterior as part of this facelift, so look for subsequent prototypes to wear even more camouflage.
Inside, look for a redesigned dash, new trim materials and an updated infotainment system. A new display screen can be seen shrouded by black cloth, and this should be joined by a new touchpad surface for an updated COMAND interface. Though it’s yet to be confirmed, we may also eventually see a more upmarket version of the GL wearing a Maybach badge
In the engine department, we should see the GL450 and GL550 models get a few extra horsepower from their twin-turbocharged 4.7-liter V-8 engine. We could also extra power offered on the GL350 BlueTEC and GL63 AMG models. Note, one additional change for the 2016 GL-Class could be the introduction of a new entry-level GL400 model powered by a gasoline V-6.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is expected to be revealed in the first half of next year. Prior to its reveal, we should see a facelifted version of the smaller M-Class introduced
