The Koenigsegg Agera R, the holder of six production car records
, has finally been launched on the American market. The Swedish supercar made its official North American debut at the recent Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance
where the founder of Koenigsegg, Christian von Koenigsegg, was able to greet fans as well as potential buyers.
In case you want to be among the fortunate few who are able to call themselves Koenigsegg owners, you had better hope you can afford the price of entry, which for the latest Agera R starts from about $1.5 million.
Of course, there’s a long list of options to be had, especially now that Koenigsegg is offering customers a range of options through a new bespoke personalization service
. Suffice it to say, that $1.5 million starting price can quickly reach the $2-million mark and beyond.
Matters of money will be quickly forgotten once hopping behind the wheel of the Agera R, however. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8, which is rated at 960 horsepower on regular pump gas or up to 1,160 horsepower when running on E85 fuel.
That much power translates to a power-to-weight ratio of 2.6 pounds per horsepower, which is why the Agera R dishes out 0-60 mph times of just 2.9 seconds (with launch control) and is claimed to be able to reach a top speed of 273 mph--5 mph more than the fastest Veyron.
The Agera R also gets a host of new technologies including hollow carbon fiber wheels to shed weight, nano-surfaced cylinder sleeves to reduce friction and Formula 1-style pushrod suspension.
The Pebble Beach Concours is the only North American show where Koenigsegg currently makes an appearance. If you happened to miss them this year, the company has confirmed it will be out on the lawns at next year’s event.
