Perhaps more surprising is that the Mustang Facebook page continues to grow at a rate of nearly 14,000 fans per day, a tribute to the car’s cross-generational appeal. With nearly 50 years of history, Facebook users of any age often have a Mustang story or two to tell.
In the words of Scott Monty, Ford’s head of social media, “We are very fortunate to have such a passionate fan base. Every fan, owner and enthusiast - regardless of age - feels a connection with Mustang, and that affinity is reciprocated through the online content we share with them.”
Ford gets positive results from Facebook by creating interactive content that draws fans in, such as a unique video based on the 2013 Mustang commercial or the Mustang Customizer that challenged users to create the most interesting Mustang design.
Mustang-centered Facebook chats allow fans to interact with engineers, executives and the occasional industry icon (such as the late Carroll Shelby), too, which gives fans a level of interaction not seen with other makes and models.
We tip out hat to Ford for reaching this milestone, and we have no doubt that we’ll be congratulating the automaker on five million Mustang fans in the not-too-distant future.
