The Toyota Avalon is about to receive a major makeover for the 2016 model year, which we’ll see for the first time at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show kicking off next week. The current Avalon has been on sale since the 2013 model year, with its arrival marking a dramatic departure from the rather somber styling the nameplate had—up until then—been known for. The car combined an aggressive face with a coupe-like body, and undoubtedly lured a few buyers that probably would have never considered an Avalon previously.

The 2016 Toyota Avalon looks to be continuing the aggressive trend. This teaser image only reveals the front styling but already we can see many of the new details, like the revised grille, new headlight internals and new bumper with what appear to be drag-reducing air curtains. Expect the interior of the Avalon to also be updated for the 2016 model year.

It’s not clear if there will be any significant powertrain updates, but the current Avalon is offered with two different powertrains: a four-cylinder-based hybrid setup and a V-6.

Also in Chicago, Toyota will show off two special edition models, one based on the Corolla and another on the Camry. These special edition models get a number of extras as standard like sporty alloy wheels, special paint finishes, and contrast stitching for the cabin.

This year’s Chicago Auto Show gets underway February 12. To see what else will be at the show, head to our dedicated hub.
