The next James Bond movie, tentatively called Skyfall, isn’t due in theaters until late this year. That hasn’t stopped the automakers tied to its production from pointing out which vehicles will feature prominently in the film, however.

We already know that a Range Rover Evoque will be present, although we don’t know who will be driving it. We recently told you that Bond’s iconic Aston Martin DB5 will make an appearance, likely as an homage to the 50th anniversary of the franchise.

Now comes word from Car that the Land Rover Defender will also star in the upcoming release, driven by Naomi Harris’s character, Eve. The movies co-producer, Andrew Noakes, assures fans that, “We are really going to test that car, do things it’s not normally designed for... the Defender is going to work very, very hard.”

That’s quite a statement, given the Defender’s long-standing reputation as a go-anywhere, do-anything SUV. It’s not the truck’s first appearance in a Bond film, either, since one was driven off the Rock of Gibraltar in The Living Daylights.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is providing nearly seventy vehicles to the production company for use during filming. While most will be used in supporting roles off-screen, the aforementioned Evoque and a Jaguar XJ are known to feature in the movie itself.

That’s in keeping with the production company’s request to keep Bond in British automobiles. Per Noakes, “We’ve had offers from other companies but we’d prefer not to take James Bond out of a British environment.”

We agree. Seeing Bond in a BMW Z8 was bad enough, but we just can’t picture the British agent behind the wheel of a Lexus.
