The 2012 Bentley Continental GTC has just had its first round of press drives, but already word of yet another Continental variant is making the rounds. This time, it's a lighter, more powerful GT2 variant.

Weighing in at 440 pounds lighter than the standard Continental GT, according to AutoExpress, the GT2 will crank out at least 650 horsepower, though Bentley hasn't yet revealed whether that power will come from a twin-turbo V-8 or the more familiar W-12. Either way, it'll be one very fast land yacht. Considering the GTC gets to 60 mph in a claimed 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 195 mph with "just" a 567-horsepower engine, the GT2 ought to be even more impressive.

Being 440 pounds lighter doesn't mean the Conti GT2 will be light, however: it will still weigh in at about 4,500 pounds. It could also go rear-drive only, as opposed to the all-wheel drive of the typical Continental.

The GT2 may be the replacement for the Supersports Continental, which remains on sale through this year alongside the newer 2012 Continentals. Its replacement is due sometime in 2012, and the GT2 could be it.
