The 2012 Porsche 911 is scheduled for its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show this September but barely disguised prototypes are currently running around the south of Germany as this latest video reveals. It shows one of the prototypes, a base Carrera model, on some roads near the automaker’s manufacturing facility in Zuffenhausen.

A previous video we saw revealed some subtle new details such as the Aston Martin style tail-lights and automatically retractable rear spoiler, but now we have a new video revealing even more details.

The new car, codenamed 991, looks very similar to its predecessor but it sits much lower and appears to be slightly wider too. Those muscular rear haunches are just mouthwatering.


As for the engine, this has been one of Porsche’s best kept secrets. The current thought is that it will feature a slightly downsized 3.4-liter flat-six engine but with an output similar to the 997 Carrera’s 345 horsepower. There could even be a seven-speed manual fitted.

    all hail the greatest everyday supercar. the 911 has no peer when it comes to its everyday useability. and i still strive for one hahaha, ill get back to you in 30 years when i can actually afford one

    baby finally got some back it looks a tiny bit better than the 2011 was expecting alot more changes but i have to say i like the rear lights and the rear not to bad.

    Frankfurt cannot come soon enough!

    Thanks to the new video we know that the boxer 6's metallic rasp is as glorious as ever and not to order our 911s in brown. ew.
