It's the middle of the weekend and already we're caught in the throes of the coming week's 2010 Detroit Auto Show. The latest leaked tidbit is a stylized sketch that's believed to be the upcoming Volkswagen Jetta Coupe, or New Compact Coupe.

The NCC is expected to be a concept in near-production form, previewing the final Jetta Coupe. A Jetta Coupe might offer those still vainly longing for the Scirocco a chance at something similar, as the general outline in the sketch is a sleek, well-proportioned coupe with the now-familiar new VW front end. Like the Passat CC, the NCC is thought to be designed with the U.S. market in mind.

Based on the Jetta sedan, the NCC is expected to feature a small four-cylinder/electric hybrid powertrain that itself previews upcoming hybrids from VW.

We'll be covering the 2010 Detroit Auto Show live from the show floor, so stay tuned for the latest news and photos of the Jetta Coupe as it happens.

  3. That's beautiful.
I just love the new VW designs, the Golf, the CC, the Scirocco, and now this. They really have that high end European look too them.

  4. VW is finally making an intelligent move the youth of today aren't embracing hatchbacks when their dream ride is a GT coupe. I would love to see if this means the U.S. market finally gets an Audi A3 coupe.

  5. This is Volkwagen's take on their cousin Audi A5 and no I don't believe there will be an A3 coupe..
..my guess is it could also spawn a Jetta fastback aswith A5 sportback and even maybe a Passat version when A7 sportback is released sometime soon.

Look for a next-gen A6 or A5 equipped like this in the US -
But for that price, you'll be waiting until it's about 10 years old and/or 100K on the odometer.

  7. Very strange. This doesn't appear to be some kind of freehand thing; it looks a lot like a photo or rendering that's purposefully been filtered to look like this. There's no reason to leak this unless it's viral... ?

  8. I'm guessing that this thing is going to be substantially smaller than an A5, so I'm not really sure they can be compared... That's without considering the price/equipment levels... And I think the sketch is like that because it's been filled in with marker... They sometimes trace over all the lines on a complex/confusing sketch so they high level execs can get an instant idea for the car without trying to see past thousands of tiny pencil flicks...

  9. I can tell you now that’s no mystery illustration - and its not a VW.
It’s an initial sketch by Mike Simcoe of what became the Holden Monaro back in 1998
