Volkswagen-owned Skoda doesn't get much press in the U.S. but over in Central and Eastern Europe it is one of the most popular automotive brands. Having launched new versions of its mainstream Octavia and Superb sedans in the past year, the company recently took the covers if its all-new Yeti compact SUV and is still planning the reveal of even more models.

One of these is a wagon variant of the Superb flagship. For those readers unfamiliar with the Superb, the car is an executive saloon that shares its running gear with the Volkswagen Passat. The regular model features a hatchback style rear entry but is still classified as a sedan, however, later this year the long-wheelbase wagon variant will arrive.

The latest spy shots reveal a nearly undisguised prototype for the upcoming car. The included computer generated rendering gives us a good indication as to how it may be styled, revealing that Skoda designers will likely go with a significantly longer rear overhang than the sedan, as well as unique tail-lamps. The interior will be lifted straight from the sedan, with chrome detailing for the air-conditioning surrounds and instrument panels carrying over.

Mechanicals, too, will be shared with the sedan so expected to see a range of engine options starting with a 1.6L FSI and topping out with a 3.6L V6 FSI. There will also be several diesel options with both 1.9L and 2.0L TDIs on offer.Skoda unveils Superb flagship ahead of Geneva debut

  1. Top spec V6 is a 3.6 litre, not a 2.8 litre. Its about to arrive here in Australia, and I for one cannot wait! I own an Octavia RS (basically the sedan verison of the car in the spy pics but without all the extra mechanical bits) and its a really good car. Skoda deserve to be world-dominators!

    Bad stuff?

  2. I prefer an estate to a sedan, if offered. However, why do all the premium European estate makers insist on a slanted rear hatch instead of something more upright?

I would like to see the return of the handsome estate silhouette from the late 90's like the Passat and A4/A6. Something like the original Allroad, but with a little more "sport", would be perfect.

I think its to do with aerodynamic efficiency - the old upright rear end causes a lot of turbulent air and can cause an effect on economy whereas the sloped rear end means the airflow across the rear is pulled more in to a point and therefore reduces drag / turbulence

Since when is Skoda a premium brand?
