VW’s new SUV to be labelled Tiguan

Tiguan, that’s the official name for Volkswagen’s soon to be released compact SUV. The name was chosen from a survey conducted in a European auto magazine, consisting of 350,000 participants.

The new vehicle will be based on the 2007 Golf platform and will go head-to-head with the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V in the compact SUV market. Styling will be heavily influenced by VW's Concept A, displayed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Expected release date is in mid 2008 and the car may even appear as a concept vehicle in Los Angeles in November.
