Just when you thought the horsepower race was starting to settle, along comes another 1,000-horsepower supercar.

In this case it’s from the tiny automaker Barabus Sports Car of the United Kingdom.

Finally unveiled at an auto show in the U.K. after a 10-year gestation, the 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 car is expected to be a worthy rival to the Bugatti Veyron. However, looking very much like a home-made kit-car, we feel it won’t quite make the same impact.

The car, thanks to its light weight and slippery shape, could reach up to 270 mph, its maker claims. Barabus also claims 0-60 mph acceleration in less than 3.0 seconds.

Hopefully the car will remain under its initial price estimate of $500,000, should it reach production.
