Spy photographer Christa Lehmann, has managed to capture images of Lexus’ upcoming replacement for the aging LX 470 SUV undergoing testing in southern Europe. The previous model was simply a re-badged version of the humble Toyota Landcrusier, but this model appears to have a unique design.

The front of the vehicle follows Lexus’ new family face with the angular headlights and horizontal bar grille. Rear styling is similar to the outgoing model, sharing the boxy shape and square taillights. The styling seems very dated and doesn’t quite match the contemporary designs coming out of Germany. The big Lexus will have a tough road ahead competing against the likes of the recently released M-Class and the forthcoming X5.

The interior marks the biggest change, featuring a unique large screen command centre and navigation system. This is surrounded by switches all round with even more controls mounted on the steering wheel than ever before. More images over at the AutoSpies website.

  1. Most of the German SUVs like the Merc GLK look strange. The ML is too small. to give its driver any sense of superiority. The LX is also a very capable off-road vehicle.
