The Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System in the
Audi A8 or S8 has been awarded by Ward’s Auto as the best production sound system in the world. A jury of 69 automotive journalists voted on it at the seventh annual 'Interior of the Year' awards. Over 3000 buyers – or one in five – have selected the package when speccing their cars, well above sales expectations.
The system is specially designed by B&O and is tailor made to the exact acoustic requirements of the A8's interior - its size, shape and materials. The speaker grilles are made from anodised aluminium, the same material used to produce the body of the sports
luxury saloon. The 14 speakers and a digital amplifier that produces more than 1000 watts of power help achieve sound quality that’s as close to a high-end stereo as you’ll get.
We’ve personally experienced it, and found it hard to believe we were in a car. One of the coolest features is the “Acoustic Lens” technology that raises two tweeters from the dash when the system is turned on. Audi is currently working with B&O on a sound system for the R8 and potentially other models down the track.
