A recent trademark filing with the United States Patent and Trademark office suggests Lexus is planning to add a new NX 300 model to its NX range of compact crossover SUVs.

The trademark filing was made by Toyota officials on March 25 for use on “automobiles and structural parts.”

The NX range already consists of the NX 200t and NX 300h models here in the United States. The NX 300 would sit between these, meaning its price tag would likely fall somewhere between the respective $35,405 and $40,645 starting prices of the NX 200t and NX 300h.

Its engine would likely be the 3.5-liter V-6 common to the IS 300 sports sedan. In the IS 300, the engine is rated at 255 horsepower and 236 pound-feet and we would expect similar numbers for the NX 300. The NX 200t with its turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder delivers 235 hp while the NX 300h features a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder-based hybrid system good for 194 hp.

Stay tuned for an update.
