When the producers of Top Gear announced there would be six new hosts to replace Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, questions were immediately raised on how the producers planned to squeeze in all six personalities without ruining the recipe.

It turns out at least two of the personalities, British journalists Chris Harris and Rory Reid, will feature primarily on a previously confirmed spinoff series called Extra Gear.

We now have our first trailer for the spinoff.

Extra Gear will provide a glimpse of some of the behind-the-scenes action that goes into producing an episode of Top Gear. It will also have its own interviews and specially recorded films, and from the trailer it looks like Extra Gear will be targeted more towards enthusiasts than Top Gear which has always been more about entertainment than serious testing of cars.

For those in the United Kingdom, Extra Gear will be broadcast on BBC Three right after Top Gear has aired on BBC Two. Both shows are scheduled to start on Sunday, May 29. Elsewhere, they’ll eventually be available on Netflix.

Meanwhile, Amazon Prime’s new show The Grand Tour starring Clarkson, Hammond and May has been confirmed to start sometime in the fall.
