In contrary to our recent story, Ultimate College Ride: 2010 Tesla Roadster Sport, today we are going to give some useful recommendations that were recently published as part of the Consumer Reports Best & Worst 2010 edition. As I alluded to in the Tesla article, most of us can’t shell out $130K in college, I would bet even $13K might be a stretch with the cost of books, food, housing and, of course, parking. So below check out some recommendations for cars costing on average less than $4,000 with decent car insurance quotes.

  • 2000 Acura Integra
  • 00-02 Chevrolet Prizm
  • 2000 Ford F-150 V8 2WD
  • 2000 Honda Civic
  • 2004 Hyundai Accent
  • 2000 Mitsubishi Galant
  • 2000 Subaru Impreza Sedan
  • 00-01 Toyota Corolla
  • 00-02 Toyota Echo

2000 Subaru Impreza Sedan L

All of the above vehicles were rated as above-average reliability by Consumer Reports for the models years listed. Those ratings are based on their recent Annual Auto Survey, so you know they are keeping on top of their recommendations. For me, I personally lean towards the Subaru Impreza and Acura Integra. The Impreza for 2000 is a good looking body and the sedan is easier to find than the more popular two-door configuration that was popular in World Rally. The Acura Integra is a great car for those looking for a sportier image, however, be aware that there is still a healthy black market for these cars due to the Fast and Furious franchise of movies.
