While the MINI Countryman has the small-crossover styling battle largely won on sheer flavor, the Acura RDX and Volkswagen Tiguan have their own set of strengths.
The RDX has more cargo space, a very nice interior, and similar drivetrain options to the Countryman.
The Tiguan has the usual, substantial German feel, but lacks the charisma both in looks and performance.
Mazda's CX-7 might not be an obvious comparison, but it has a lot of driving appeal and similar utility, though it's not quite the head-turner or image-builder the MINI is; the back seat's a tight fit, and the price-to-prestige ratio is nowhere near that of the MINI.
