What's the best Corvette to buy? Well, it looks like it will soon be the Grand Sport. Chevrolet has announced that the 2017 Gran Sport will be priced from $66,445 for the coupe and $70,445 for the convertible when they go on sale this summer. Both prices include the destination charge.

The Grand Sport can be thought of as a Z06 without the supercharged engine. It features the base model's 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 making 455 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. On top of that it adds an aerodynamics package, an enhanced cooling package, an electronic limited-slip differential, and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Chevrolet says this combination gives the 1.05g of cornering grip.

The Z06's Z07 package is also available for the Grand Sport and it increases ultimate grip to 1.2g. The Z07 package for the Z06 runs about $8,000 and includes P285/30ZR19 and rear P335/25ZR20 Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tires, carbon ceramic brakes, unique suspension with Magnetic Selective Ride Control dampers, and a more aggressive aero package with splitter end plates and a clear adjustable wicker bill. We assume the Grand Sport will offer the same Z07 equipment.

With the Z07 package and the optional 8-speed automatic transmission, Chevy estimates a 3.6-second 0 to 60 mph time and an 11.8-second quarter-mile run. A 7-speed manual transmission is standard.

Exterior changes versus the base Corvette include a Z06-style grille, unique front fender inserts, and wider fenders to accommodate the car's wider track.

An available Heritage package has front fender hash-mark graphics in one of six colors, and those hash mark details are echoed on the interior’s brushed aluminum trim. Also optional are full-length stripes in five colors, five wheel choices, and carbon fiber ground effects.

Later in the model year, Chevrolet will offer a Grand Sport Collector Edition (shown) with Watkins Glen Gray Metallic paint, Tension Blue hash-mark graphics, satin black full-length stripes, black wheels, and a Tension Blue full leather and suede-wrapped interior that may burn your eyes out. This edition also features an embossed outline of the original 1963 Corvette Grand Sport on the headrests, and an instrument panel plaque, also shaped like the '63, with the car's build number.
