If you see this behind you on the road, don't bother moving over. It'll get past.

The kids in the back will even wave as it goes by.

It's the 2014 Audi RS 6 Avant, and it's just gone official following a spate of leaked images earlier today.

Rated at 560 horsepower courtesy of a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine, the RS 6 gets to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds. That puts it in Corvette ZR1 territory--with a backseat and cargo space. And it's 220 pounds lighter than the previous RS 6 Avant.

Quattro all-wheel drive helps the acceleration, of course, as well as providing a fair degree of all-weather capability. Not that you'll want to go 189.5 mph in the snow, but you could.

The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 makes peak horsepower not at one rpm, but across the entire range from 5,700 rpm to 6,700 rpm. Peak torque comes on at 1,750 rpm and carries on to 5,500 rpm. Two twin-scroll turbos help feed the engine all the compressed air it needs, nestled in the V of the block along with a compact intercooler.

Top speeds are tiered in the 2014 RS 6, with the standard model electronically limited to 155 mph. Add the Dynamic package and that rises to 174 mph, while the Dynamic plus package boosts top speed to 189.5 mph. Despite the lightning acceleration and top speeds, the Avant manages an average of 24 mpg US in European testing.

All-new for the RS series of cars is the RS 6's standard tuned air suspension. Capable of lowering the car by 20 mm, as well as controlling damping based on driving style, mode chosen, and road conditions. In an unusual turn, the upgraded suspension is a standard steel-spring affair, with stiffer ride quality and three-way adjustable dampers to tune handling characteristics to suit the conditions (or the track).

Dynamic steering is also available, which offers variable, stepless assistance boost and steering ratios. Standard steering is electromechanical, but both are specially-tuned for the RS 6 Avant.

At each corner is a large disc brake setup, 15.35 in up front in steel or 16.54 in with the optional carbon-ceramic discs.

Beyond the performance options, there are a host of appearance and design choices to make, including available matte-finish aluminum or carbon packages, a range of interior materials and styles, and infotainment and convenience options like you'll find on any Audi.
