Mitsubishi has told us it doesn't want its model lineup to all look like the Evo, and it appears the next-generation Outlander crossover will be the first to diverge from that styling path. Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, the new Outlander features Mitsubishi's new styling mojo that will spread across its entire U.S. model line over time.

The new Outlander will offer new fuel-efficient powertrain options to go along with its new look. Ranging from gasoline four-cylinder engines to diesel and plug-in hybrids, Mitsubishi is committed to improving its fuel economy numbers.

Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will be offered and a new engine stop-start system will be included. The new crossover also introduces Mitsubishi's new lightweight construction method and an eco-driving coach.

The interior has been upgraded with soft-touch dashboard trim and a glassy black instrument panel. A third row will again be available, making this a seven-seat people hauler, and a power-operated tailgate will make things easier for those carrying groceries or the kids' dirty soccer balls.

The 2013 Outlander will go on sale in Europe this summer, with the U.S. market receiving it before the end of the year.
