Mercedes-AMG has started its official teaser campaign for its new SLS-replacing sports car, the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT. The Porsche 911 rival isn’t due for a reveal until the third quarter of the year, but we’ve already seen numerous prototypes as well as the car’s luscious interior, and now, thanks to the video above, we’ve also heard its engine.

But there’s much more information to come: AMG has launched a new microsite for the GT (www.mercedes-amg.com/AMGGT) that features a few teaser images and dates for when additional details will be released. Some of those additional details will include a new sound clip of the car’s engine as well as information on its dynamics, performance and design.

Though yet to be officially announced, it’s widely expected that power in the GT will come from a new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 that AMG will eventually offer in most of its V-8-powered lineup, including the next C63 AMG. Drive will go to the rear wheels only, via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission mounted at the rear axle.

Mercedes sports cars of the recent past haven’t been known for being the sharpest tools in the shed, but the new GT is set to change all that. In developing the car, the engineers focused on driving dynamics, agility and sportiness. This can be seen in the smaller chassis of the car compared to the previous SLS, but also from the extensive testing done at race tracks all around the world as well as closer integration with engineers from the successful Mercedes AMG Formula One team.

Look for the Mercedes-AMG GT to be revealed online prior to an official world debut at the 2014 Paris Auto Show in October. For more details, including additional spy shots, read our previous report on the car.
