When Volvo launched its first SUV, the XC90, back in 2002, it quickly became not only the brand’s top-selling vehicle in the U.S. but also its best selling model worldwide. Volvo is now hoping to build on that success by sticking with the same basic formula used for the XC90--basically, combine a stylish soft-roader with car-like dynamics and throw in a little bit of luxury--and then improve upon it.

The company’s first extension of the XC90 is the smaller 2010 XC60, which sits in the same premium crossover category as the BMW X3, Land Rover LR2, Acura RDX, and Infiniti EX35. An opinion based purely on looks would say that the XC60 takes the cake in this segment, but it also comes with all-wheel-drive and off road specifications as standard, in addition to carrying forward Volvo’s long standing tradition for safety.
