Ford reveals first of its SEMA-bound 2016 Focus RS hatchbacks

The Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] Focus RS may turn out to be one of the most popular cars at the upcoming 2016 SEMA show. Why? Because it combines two traits vehicle modifiers adore: a reasonable price tag and an engine just begging for more power.

Ford will have a handful on its own stand, the most extreme of which has been built by famous Ford tuner Roush. The car’s turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-4 has been tuned to deliver over 500 horsepower, thanks mostly to some calibration of the ECU. The engine’s cooling system and some internals were also upgraded to suit the new output.

Roush also upgraded the suspension and brake, which is a wise move whenever you significantly up the power. In the case of its Focus RS, Roush installed adjustable suspension with camber plates and slotted brake rotors. The car also wears Roush’s own aero kit and 19-inch wheels wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires.

Similar to the Roush Focus RS is the example from Full-Race Motorsports. This car sports a new turbocharger to help liberate 450 hp. A new front-mount intercooler has been installed to cool the charge air and a 3.0-in exhaust system from the turbo back has been added to reduce back pressure.

For the chassis, Full-Race Motorsports added a Wavetrac limited-slip differential for the front axle, beefier driveshafts, Whiteline front and rear adjustable end-link sway bars, and KW coilover suspension. The wheels are a 19-in set from Finspeed that come wrapped in Toyo Proxes R888 tires.

The final Focus RS Ford has previewed has been developed by H&R Springs. It features coilover suspension, enabling each coil to be fine-tuned over shock with a progressive-rate spring to ensure better handling and comfort than the stock setup. The wheels are an 18-in set from O.Z. Racing and come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Fans of Ford’s other hatches like the Focus and Fiesta ST also have a lot to look forward to. Ford will have these, too. Show here are examples modified by the likes of Blood & Grease, Cinemotive Media and Tucci Hot Rods.
