At this point, there's no question General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] is working on a mid-engine Corvette for the model's eighth generation (C8). We have spy photos to prove it. The question is, will it be available with a manual transmission?

That's exactly what we asked you in a recent Twitter poll. A whopping 68 percent of you said it should absolutely be offered with three pedals, which means you #GiveAShift.

Hopefully the 21 percent of you that said "No! Dual-clutch FTW" are track rats who just care about lap times. If not, well, shame on you.

Weirdly, 8 percent of you don't care. How could you not care? Please, it's your duty as an automotive enthusiast to care about such things. If you don't help preserve the manual transmission, who will?

Lastly, three percent of you clearly aren't reading Motor Authority often enough, as you responded, "What's the C8 Corvette." For you, we suggest you do some light reading here.

Word has it the mid-engine C8 Corvette might skip the manual transmission in the name of cost. The sole transmission? Supposedly a version of Tremec's TR-9007 7-speed dual-clutch.

Before all this happens we'll get one last big hurrah for the C7 Corvette in the way of the next ZR1. We believe it will debut in January at the 2017 Detroit auto show.

Will the mid-engine C8 Corvette have a manual transmission option? Only certain individuals at GM and its suppliers truly know. We certainly hope so, though, and clearly the majority of you do as well.
