Lotus has had its share of ups and downs, but the British automaker does have a past worth remembering.

To celebrate its past, a special edition of the company's Evora sports car has been unveiled to mark the 50th anniversary of the Hethel assembly plant.

The Hethel Edition builds on the recently-introduced Evora 400, the fastest road-going Lotus ever, with a trio of special colors available and a commemorative plate marking each one. Buyers in markets that receive the Evora 400, which doesn't include the United States just yet, will have a choice between Essex Blue, Motorsport Black, and Racing Green. Interior shades include black or red leather or Alcantara.

Forged alloy wheels with contrasting brake calipers and a bespoke, heritage-inspired graphics package round out the Evora 400 Hethel Edition's look.

Lotus says the Evora 400 Hethel Edition will sticker from £75,500 (approximately $109,110) in the United Kingdom and a bit over €100,000 ($113,760) in Germany, France, and Italy.

Don't look for the Evora 400 at your local Lotus dealer, however. The automaker has said the sports car will come here sometime this year, but no official date has been set. One Evora 400 has been certified for American road use, but a number of hurdles have prevented additional ones from entering the U.S.

Instead, American buyers may initially get a naturally-aspirated version of the Evora.
