Spa-Francorchamps’ infamous Eau Rouge corner claimed another victim in the form of the number 66 Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] GT in yesterday’s 6 Hours of Spa, the second race of the 2016 World Endurance Championship.

The car, one of two GTs fielded by Ford in partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing, was driven at the time by  Stefan Mucke. Fortunately he walked away with only some leg bruises and was cleared by the circuit's medical center. Nevertheless he was later taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution and Ford today gave the all clear.

As the video from Speed shows, his GT was banged up pretty good. The car, which was already out of contention for a podium finish in the GTE Pro class due to turbo issues, was traveling at speed when the rear lost traction. The car then entered a spin and ended up crashing into a tire wall.

It wasn’t all bad news for Ford. The second GT, car number 67 piloted by Andy Priaulx, Marino Franchitti and Harry Tincknell, finished third in class to secure Ford its first trophy in the WEC. The podium finish came just a week after the number 67 Ford GT competing in the 2016 United Sportscar Championship’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix at Laguna Seca took home the GTLM class victory. Securing that first win for the new GT was Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook.

The overall winner of the 6 Hours of Spa was the number 8 Audi R18. Coming second was the number 2 Porsche 919 Hybrid and third was the number 13 Rebellion R-One.
