UPDATE: It has been confirmed that Chris Evans will host future episodes of Top Gear. More details here.

With the future of Top Gear in doubt, we may never see Ferrari’s LaFerrari put down an official power lap around the show’s test track, the 1.75-mile loop at the old Dunsfold Aerodrome in the U.K. However, in a special one-off return of the popular British show TFI Friday, presenter Chris Evans handed over the keys to his own LaFerrari to racing driver Jason Plato who was then given access to the Dunsfold track for just 15 minutes.

In the end, Plato managed to complete a lap in just 1:14.2, which is slower than only the 1:13.8 lap time set by the Pagani Huayra in season 19 of Top Gear. Plato was quick to point out that the conditions were damp, whereas the Pagani ran on a completely dry surface, and no doubt with a little more time to practice Plato could put down a faster lap time for the LaFerrari.

Current Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton also made an appearance on the show, though he didn’t do any driving. Incidentally, he also happens to be a LaFerrari owner.

As for Evans, there's been rumors he may end up as one of the presenters on Top Gear should the show live on. In fact, ousted host Jeremy Clarkson also appeared on the TFI Friday special in a segment where he rode around with Evans in the LaFerrari giving tips for presenting on Top Gear. However, Evans has consistently denied the rumors.

Thanks to Bruno for sending in the tip!
