Audi has just launched its second-generation R8 but the old one still has plenty of life left in it, especially if you modify the heck out of it. Here’s a first-generation R8 V10 that’s been modified by America’s own AMS Performance. The car is strapped to a dyno and as you’ll soon see after hitting play it shoots some pretty massive flames from its exhaust once it’s on the boil.

The guys at AMS have added a custom twin-turbocharger setup to the range-topping R8’s 5.2-liter V-10. There’s a lengthy list of additional upgrades including a new intake manifold, reinforcements for the stock seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, a new fuel pump and a new air-to-water intercooler system.

According to AMS, the setup is already delivering more than 1,300 horsepower to the wheels. The next stop for this R8 is a trial by fire at none other than the Texas Speed Syndicate Texas Invitational - King of the Streets event later this month.
