Red Bull F1 Car Goes Technicolor With Tire-Melting Infrared Burnout: Video

This stunning array of pinks, purples, oranges, and reds isn’t some impressionist masterpiece. Or then again, maybe it is. However you classify it, it’s certainly impressive to watch the Red Bull RB8 F1 car do tire-melting donuts in infrared.

Shot with a FLIR x6850sc infrared camera, this video footage shows the multi-time world champ plus-ing the throttle while minus-ing the tires in epic style. The tires get so hot early on that they appear to be flaming, though that’s just the super-hot smoke rising from the tread.

The incredible heat from the side-mounted exhaust also adds to the show. Along the way, you’ll see some neat technical shots of the car, also in infrared. Be sure to stick around for the end of the video, where you can see a quick sequence of the burnout in both infrared and normal video.
