Dodge gave us an early look at its redesigned 2015 Charger muscle sedan at the 2014 New York Auto Show in April, but the automaker is yet to reveal the high-performance SRT version. During the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles five-year strategy announcement earlier in the year, we learned that a new Charger SRT will be launched for the 2015 model year, complete with a supercharged engine.

This led to speculation that the supercharged engine destined for the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT would be none other than Chrysler’s new Hellcat, a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 good for 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. We’ve just driven the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT equipped with the Hellcat, and yes it’s just as insane as you'd expect a rear-wheel-drive coupe with 707 horses under the hood to be.

Now we have semi-official confirmation that the 2015 Charger SRT will be just as bonkers. First noted by Road & Track, the SAE filing for the Hellcat’s power rating mentions both the 2015 Challenger SRT and 2015 Charger SRT. This means that the 2015 Charger SRT Hellcat is destined to be the most powerful sedan to ever hit the market. By comparison, the V-12-powered Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is currently the most powerful four-door on the market, and it produces ‘only’ 621 hp.

Prototypes for the 2015 Charger SRT have already been spotted. The new muscle sedan is likely to make its debut at the end of the year and go on sale shortly after. Note, production may be limited, so if you’re interested in one you had better start getting real friendly with your local Dodge dealer.
