In the beautiful Ardennes Forest of Belgium is the legendary Spa Francorchamps race track, where once a year the Spa 24 Hours, the highlight of the Blancpain Endurance Series, takes place. This year’s race gets underway tomorrow and McLaren has confirmed that six of its 12C GT3 race cars will be competing.

Customer teams ART Grand Prix and Boutsen-Ginion Racing have both entered  two cars, while British-based Von Ryan Racing and MRS-GT are confirmed for one-off entries into the championship with one car each. Last year 10 12C GT3s took to the track, though the ultimate winner was the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 of HTP-Motorsport.

Marc VDS BMW driver Dirk Werner claimed top spot in Thursday’s qualifying session, although the first 10 rows of the grid will be determined after today’s Super Pole session. Christopher Mies of Belgian Audi Club Team WRT was second quickest on Thursday while Kevin Estre was third quickest for the ART McLaren squad.

Alongside the high octane action on the track, McLaren GT, the sports car racing division of McLaren, will also showcase the recently revealed 650S GT3 in the paddock, giving race fans an opportunity to get a closer look at the car which was unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new model will debut on GT grids around the world from next year.
