shooting brake version
of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class in the works, and we now know it will have an AMG version. Sadly, both are almost certainly going to take up residence in the jealousy-filled pages of the Forbidden Fruit

Visually, the differentiation is obvious, as this minimally camouflaged example demonstrates: the same core visual cues that separate the CLA45 AMG four-door from its more ordinary counterparts will be used on the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake, simply with the addition of a wagon-like cargo extension.
While a five-door "shooting brake
" is stretching the concept (they're typically three-door affairs), matching the coupe-like lines of the four-door to an extended cargo area is, for many enthusiasts, the best of both worlds. Adding our 2014 Best Car To Buy-winning CLA45 AMG
powertrain underneath all of that takes the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake into lust-worthy realms--even though it's all for naught.
Wagon-hating mainstream America aside, the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake should deliver just what you'd expect: more room for things, if not people, along with a fast, fun-to-drive setup that leverages the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine's 355-horsepower rating and on-demand all-wheel-drive system to great effect.
That effect includes 0-60 mph times of just 4.5 seconds for the sedan, so we'd expect the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake to add a tenth or two to that figure once the extra weight is taken into account. Top speed is likely to be limited to the same 155 mph, and the same all-wheel-drive system, which can deliver up to 50 percent of torque to the rear wheels will get the call too. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, AMG-tuned suspension setup, and AMG-styled interior will also certainly make the feature sheet.
