If there's one thing Drive's Chris Harris seems to test more than anything else, it's four-door sedans with insane power outputs. His latest video throws three more into the mix, pitting latest versions of the Jaguar XFR-S, BMW M6 Gran Coupe and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG against one another on track, road and drag strip. And as you'd expect from the super sedan triumvirate, there's plenty of smoke, plenty of noise and a whole lot of sideways.

The appeal of such vehicles is easy to see. You get all the benefits of the comfortable, practical sedans each car is based on, but performance to shame most sports cars. There's luxury and refinement, but a bellowing soundtrack and eye-catching styling. All three look great being thrown around the circuit, an incongruous setting for cars you'd expect to see wafting along the highway. And, when the time calls for it, all three can turn into a drag strip-burning tire-smoker--as Harris ably demonstrates towards the end of the video.

Automakers should probably know by now that Chris doesn't really listen to their requests not to do things, so Jaguar probably won't be too surprised he took the XFR-S to the track after a request not to. But the 550-horsepower blue sedan looks great on the circuit, and aside from a power deficit and an overheating electronic diff, it drifts with the best of them. The Mercedes and BMW are more potent still, with the Mercedes getting the road testing nod and the BMW best on track. The M6 wins on the Bruntingthorpe runway too, dispatching 60 mph in four seconds and only losing to the more powerful E63 as it nudges the electronic limiter.

If there's one quote that sums up the whole video though, it comes at the end of the drag race. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, but above all: These are fast cars.
