2015 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe spy shots

At the 2014 Detroit Auto Show next month, BMW will finally launch its latest M3 sedan as well as a new M4 coupe based on the 4-Series. However, just a couple of months later we’ll see the debut of another new BMW, the 4-Series Gran Coupe.

The 4-Series Gran Coupe is essentially a smaller version of the 6-Series Gran Coupe and fits into the burgeoning four-door coupe segment instigated by the original Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. We’ve been spying prototypes for months, with the car looking very much like a sleeker 3-Series sedan.

We’ll see the covers come off soon, as a debut is set for the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in early March, according to Autocar.

The car is said to feature the same overall length and wheelbase as the 4-Series coupe, but with a taller roof. To accommodate the rear doors, designers have shortened the length of the 4-Series coupe’s doors.

As for the engine lineup, expect the same 428i and 435i designations from the 4-Series coupe to filter across to the four-door coupe. This means a 240-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo in the 428i Gran Coupe and a 300-horsepower 3.0-liter turbo in the 435i model. Transmission choices should include a standard six-speed manual and optional eight-speed automatic.

A high-performance M4 Gran Coupe powered by the 425-horsepower 3.0-liter turbo announced for the latest M3 sedan and new M4 coupe is expected, along with a sporty M Performance model.

Sales of the 4-Series Gran Coupe range should commence in the fall, making it a 2015 model.
