Now that Steve Saleen, founder of tuning firm Saleen Automotive and creator of the original Saleen S7 supercar, has won back the right to the legal use of his name on new products, the former racer-turned-automotive-entrepreneur is keen to get back to what he loves doing most, building some of the best performance cars on the market.

Already we’ve seen him reveal some new modified muscle cars as well as confirm plans for a new S8 supercar to succeed the S7. And now Saleen and his crew at Saleen Automotive have announced plans for the development of an electric car.

Before you start imagining an electrified Saleen aimed at hybrid hypercars like the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder, recall that Saleen previously stated that its planned electric car was aimed at commercial and consumer markets.

No further details on Saleen’s electric car plans have been revealed, though the company plans to give an update early next year by revealing a scale model.

"We recognize that electric cars are a trend, not a fad and expect this vehicle category to continue to increase as an automotive option for consumers," Steve Saleen said in a statement. "We intend to enter this market with an offering that is truly innovative and offers the styling and craftsmanship associated with the Saleen Automotive brand."
