It’s been exactly three years since we first learned that BMW’s 1-Series Coupe would be renamed a 2-Series for its second generation, and in just a few days we’ll be seeing the covers finally come off the new car. BMW has confirmed an October 25 reveal for its new 2-Series, which will go on sale in the first half of next year, as a 2015 model.

The 2-Series badge will initially appear on a coupe variant but will eventually be applied to a convertible, too. It’s not clear yet if a four-door ‘2-Series Gran Coupe’ is planned, though given BMW’s penchant for product expansion it’s entirely possible.

The teaser video above clearly shows the silhouette of the new 2-Series. Our own spy shots of prototypes also reveal much of the design. The car is a bit sleeker and rounder than the 1-Series Coupe it’s set to replace, but it retains the same general proportions and feel.

Engine options, at least here in the U.S., should mirror those offered in the 3-Series range.

Look for the base model to be a 228i powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering about 240 horsepower.

This should be joined by a 235i powered by a 3.0-liter turbo six with about 300 horses. Overseas, a 220d diesel-powered 2-Series is also expected.

Performance fans will be glad to hear that a ‘M235i’ M Performance model is expected. This should feature the same 3.0-liter turbo six fitted to the M135i sold overseas, where it dishes out 320 horsepower. Further down the track we may even see a dedicated M model. This proposed ‘M2’ would serve as a successor to the highly praised 1-Series M Coupe.

Stay tuned for the full reveal of the 2015 BMW 2-Series this Friday.
