Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer has hinted that a concept previewing the automaker’s next Z sports car will be presented at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show in November. Nissan is expected to introduce its new Z next year, as a 2015 model, so the timing makes sense.

Palmer made the suggestion during a recent interview with Auto Express. When asked about the new Z, the Nissan exec said, “Do I know what it looks like? Yes I do. Have I driven it? Yes I have. When will you see it? Come to Tokyo.”

The new Z is expected to be smaller and lighter than the 370Z it will replace. The engine will also be downsized and may feature less than six cylinders for the first time. To maintain performance, turbocharging or perhaps even some form of vehicle electrification may be employed.

Nissan is heavily focused on electric performance with its latest ZEOD RC race car and the automaker has previously shown an electric sports car concept with styling similar to the 370Z. The good news is that a high-performance NISMO version is also planned.

We’ll bring you an update as soon as we have more details on Nissan’s new Z sports car.
