Lamborghini has long been known for its extreme approach to design. Usually those designs are not just striking, but beautiful as well.

Usually.

Here we have the Egoista, apparently designed to echo the look and feel of an open-cockpit formula car as viewed through a kaleidoscope.

Unveiled during an event for the brand's 50th anniversary celebrations--and apparently just to the crowd on hand in Sant'Agata--little else is known about the Egoista except for its origin.

For more photos, check out the growing Egoista collection on Instagram.

UPDATE: The Egoista is essentially a one-off design study, to celebrate Lamborghini's anniversary, and represents "hedonism taken to the extreme."

According to Lamborghini, "The Egoista is pure emotion, Never Never Land, which no one can ever possess, and which will always remain a dream, for everyone."

Stay tuned for more info on the Egoista [note: We've corrected all instances of the name, which was erroneously called out as Ecosta in the earliest version of this post].

In the meantime, as we were furrowing brows over the name, we just couldn't forget about this...
