Google is hard at work on creating a world in which autonomous cars roam the highways and byways that surround us. It's a future we're all heading towards, and Google wants to make sure it's at the forefront.

Another company working hard to stay a few steps ahead is automaker Tesla, which is led by the forward-thinking Elon Musk. This is a CEO with an eye towards the future of our planet, as well as the future of things off of our planet.

In an interview with Bloomberg, it appears that Musk is also thinking about the role of autonomous cars and views it as a technology that should find a home with his Tesla automobiles.

Musk views the concept of an automotive auto-pilot as something that is important to the evolution of automobiles. He's right, of course, as there's no denying that this bit of technological assistance should make an appearance within a decade or so.

Still, there's no reason to think that the next iteration of the Model S will be ready to shuttle you autonomously to the local mall. Musk clarified the comments made in Bloomberg by way of a few tweets.

Musk stated that the self-driving car comments were simply off-the-cuff remarks. There is no priority within the organization to push for autonomous cars at this time, and instead Tesla will focus on electric vehicles to the masses.
