Joining the Volkswagen Touareg R-Line at next week's North American International Motor Show in Detroit, VW is also launching an R-Line option on the smaller Tiguan crossover.

Both models join the older VW CC R-Line and recently-introduced Beetle R-Line in the automaker's lineup, promising a sportier drive than the standard cars.

The 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line takes the Tiguan SEL's specification and adds a distinctive body kit and 19-inch 'Mallory' alloy wheels. The kit features re-worked bumpers, side skirts, wheelarch extensions and an R-Line rear spoiler.

Roadholding should be improved on the upgraded, 'sport tuned' suspension, while bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime-running lights are standard.

Under the hood you get the same 2.0-liter turbocharged engine as found in other Tiguans, and Volkswagen's famous GTI model. You can send that 200-horsepower output through either the front wheels, or optional 4Motion all-wheel drive.

Interior upgrades include metallic-finish interior trim, a flat-bottomed R-Line multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters, stainless steel scuff plates, aluminum pedals and a black headliner.

Audiophiles will appreciate the new Fender Premium Audio System, featuring a 10-channel, 400-watt amplifier, eight speakers, and a rear subwoofer.

Pricing is yet to be announced though we know the new Tiguan R-Line will go on sale in the third quarter of 2013, and you can see it at the Detroit Auto Show.
