With all the attention given to the launch of the Scion FR-S and the Subaru BRZ, it was inevitable that the cars would turn up in pro racing for the 2013 season. Sure enough, the first Scion FR-S GTS racer has bowed its head at this week’s SEMA show.

Built by Ken Stout Racing, the FR-S will be driven by Robert Stout in the 2013 Pirelli World Challenge series. Robert has a good shot at taking the GTS class crown next year; as Autoweek explains, the young driver piloted a Scion tC to a Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car championship in 2010.

Along the way he picked up Rookie of the Year and Sunoco Hard Charger awards, along with five wins and nine podium finishes. Scion is glad to have Robert back on board, as he brought the company its first Manufacturer’s Touring Car Championship in his 2010 season.

As detailed by Car and Driver, the Ken Stout Racing FR-S GTS will be nothing like the FR-S found on your Scion dealer’s showroom floor. In addition to the standard competition modifications of a full roll cage, five-point harness and a racing seat, the car gets an infusion of horsepower thanks to a prototype TRD supercharger.

The engine also benefits from forged pistons, a TRD intake and a custom exhaust. Upping the durability, a C&R radiator ensures that engine temps stay in the desired range. While horsepower figures have yet to be published, we’re sure there’s enough grunt to make the car competitive in class.

Underneath, a fully-adjustable JRX suspension uses Eibach springs, Vertex upper and lower control arms and Vertex anti-roll bars. Rays 18-inch wheels wear Pirelli P Zero slicks, while TRD four-piston calipers grab 14-inch rotors with the help of a Teves anti-lock system.

Look for the FR-S GTS to make its competition debut at the 2013 Pirelli World Challenge season-opener, scheduled for March 22 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
