Engineers are hard at work testing prototypes for the next-generation Infiniti G sedan, which will be making its official debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January before (hopefully) reaching showrooms sometime next summer. We recently brought you some spy shots of those prototypes but here’s a video showing another being flung around Germany’s infamous Nürburgring circuit.

It’s clear the styling of the new car, which will be introduced as a 2014 model, has been influenced by recent Infiniti concept cars like the Emerg-E and LE. Distinguishing features include pronounced character lines, a much more fluid shape than the outgoing model, and Infiniti’s signature grille.

With Infiniti recently dropping the G25 model from its current G sedan lineup, it’s likely a G37 variant will remain the base option with the new generation too. Power is expected to come from an updated VQ V-6 engine, though a four-cylinder diesel sourced from Mercedes-Benz will be offered  in certain markets.

Further down the track we could see a new turbocharged engine offered as well as a G35h hybrid packing Infiniti’s next-generation hybrid technology. A high-performance IPL model is expected too.

We'll keep you updated as development of the 2014 Infiniti G37 continues, and stay tuned for its Detroit reveal in January.
