BMW’s new X5 M and X6 M performance SUVs based on the latest X5 and X6 models are due soon, with many tipping we’ll see them unveiled at next month’s 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show where two BMW world premieres are planned. Right on cue, a teaser video for the new performance SUVs has been released, but unfortunately it doesn’t reveal much.

The teaser video pokes a little fun at the snooping photographers that like to snap prototypes during testing. While the video doesn’t reveal much, the photographers being made fun of have actually managed to come up with a number of shots depicting the new X5 M and X6 M, and these give us a pretty good idea what the vehicles will look like.

As the spy shots reveal, sharper and more aggressive styling will feature. Key elements will include larger air intakes, M-style fender details and quad-exhaust tips. A nice power bulge in the hood should also feature on both.

Under the hood of both vehicles should sit an uprated version of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 found in the outgoing X5 M and X6 M. Both power and torque are expected to be increased beyond the current rating of 555 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque: look for the power figure to fall somewhere close to the 575 horsepower of the latest M5 equipped with its Competition Package.

Should the vehicles debut in L.A., we would expect to see them on sale next spring.
