With the winter months approaching, well, for those readers in the Northern Hemisphere, BMW is giving us reason to look forward to the cold season with a new special edition X1. Developed together with ski manufacturer K2, the new special edition, which goes by the name X1 Powder Ride Edition, gets a series of exclusive features and will be offered for sale in November following a debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show that same month.
Designed for driving up to your favorite ski resort, though it’s also at home in any urban environment, the X1 Powder Ride Edition comes standard with all-wheel drive as well as roof rails, additional storage compartments in the cabin, a snowboard bag, all-weather floor mats and a roof box.
The vehicle also gets BMW’s xLine package, which adds an aluminum satin finish to the roof rails, special 18-inch alloys, door sill strips, leather trim for the seats and steering wheel, and ambient lighting.
And there’s one other highlight lined up: anyone who purchases this special edition will receive a high-quality, exclusively designed pair of K2 LTD Powder Ride skis.
The BMW X1 Powder Ride Edition, which will be offered for this coming winter only, can be ordered in the non-metallic paint shades Black and Alpine White, as well as in Valencia Orange, Mineral White, Mineral Grey, Glacier Silver and Black Sapphire metallic finishes. Engine options include the 240-horsepower xDrive28i four-cylinder or 300-horsepower xDrive35i straight-six.
To help launch the vehicle, BMW will also be presenting a one-off concept version, dubbed the Concept K2 Power Ride. The concept car is the result of a three-year cooperation between BMW and K2 and comes with special 19-inch alloys, a slightly taller ride height over the standard model, tinted windows and a roof that boasts a custom ski rack with an integrated Harman Kardon sound system.
The unique roof structure specially developed for the concept car is made from milled aluminum and contains two luggage boxes and a ski carrier.
The BMW Concept K2 Power Ride will also be on display at the L.A. Auto Show this November.
